2K Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Producer to Rescue Troubled Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Comes After Poor Response

The new appointee assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing unveiling last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer notified staff about this decision through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the requirement for a more defined game identity.

The president stated that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed vision, aiming to satisfy player expectations.

A Pattern of Key Hires

This announcement follows a similar move taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the entire content from the president's memo:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just wrapped up your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a message, I stated the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most driven and creative designers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that partnership to persist.”

With your dedication and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It validated the appeal of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It highlighted the requirement for a clearer brand.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the feedback to mind and overhauled Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s poised to fulfill its potential to our audience.

The belief in this project strengthens every day. To boost the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the new Lead of 31st Union. Following a period of discussions, Ben starts with us on Monday, October 20.

His leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is extensive, having dedicated the last 15 years developing and managing some of the most recognizable titles in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.

Please join me in receiving him in the coming days. We are all eager to persist observing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to come.

David

Experience of the New Leader

The appointee presently holds the position of senior developer and head of production at the renowned studio for their flagship title. He previously was employed at major gaming companies in various production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, earlier in his career, had periods at other industry leaders.

Game Details and Vision

Project Ethos was revealed in last year alongside a public demo. Then, the developers described the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an thrilling evolution on the genre."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch reads. "Take on the rivals with fresh skills, challenges, and obstacles that change every session. Do you leave securely with your collected items? Alternatively aim high, gamble everything, and trust your team can secure victory? The option is up to you."

The game does not have an official launch window or consoles, but fans can look forward to additional details as development progresses.
