Together Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Romantic Bond.

We present a dare for those in enduring partnerships who are fans of horror films: Settle in with your partner and stream Together. The 2025 indie hit just made its streaming debut on the Hulu service. On the surface, it could look like typical body horror, but inside Together resides a profound examination about how we choose to love one another.

An Introductory Film Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together is the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It stars actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for ten years. Having wed in reality in 2017, Franco and Brie contribute a special spark to their characters, expertly portraying both the strengths and weaknesses of a committed partnership.

The story commences when Millie and Tim transition from the big city to the rural area for professional reasons. A commonly used plot device, of course, but that’s mostly where the tropes cease. Together becomes as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While trekking near their rural residence, a violent storm occurs, and Millie and Tim fall into an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity begins influencing the couple. This force induces a otherworldly bond between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The complete narrative is a gradually intensifying fright fest, weaving in elements of dreamlike terrors, unsettling (but tastefully done) biological grotesqueries, and surprisingly comedic exchanges (sometimes amidst something disturbing). Michael Shanks skillfully blends these components seamlessly and presents them in a gradually swelling aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A large part of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray countless layers to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and sense of connection is waning due to a emotional and physical gap. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his hesitance to pursue anything but his failing musical ambitions slowly bubbles to the surface.

In contrast, Tim's character senses confinement and cut off by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve moved to the country and far away from his social circle. He dreads the concept of utterly sacrificing his individual identity in Millie. This fear is intensified by the reality he does not operate a vehicle and is dependent on Millie for transportation.

Shanks’ smartest move in Together never makes one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

The couple face the type of challenges that arise in any relationship after ten years. At their core, they continue to care for each other. They still laugh together, provide solace, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an persistent feeling of questioning about their bond.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together act as a metaphor for these concerns of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the metaphor avoids being hamfisted or heavy-handed. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments present a ideal counterpart to the relationship narrative. Both the horror and the drama serve the other symbiotically.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s final act, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the film’s ultimate message about enmeshed dynamics. Accounts suggest that those not in relationships have seen the movie as a compelling reason for remaining unattached. Meanwhile, certain partners experiencing tension found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own interpretation could potentially serve as a great barometer of how you think about commitment. Will the finale plant feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and yell at the screen, or simply glance toward your other half and utter, “I understand that choice”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can undertake at this very moment.

Together is currently playing on Hulu's platform at present.
